X Factor runner-up Rhydian Roberts has been left disappointed following a snub from the Welsh rugby team.

Welsh rugby union chief executive Roger Lewis had previously asked the singer, from Powys in west Wales, to perform the Welsh national anthem before a game.

However, executives have now made a U-turn and banned Rhydian from appearing.

A WRU spokesman said: "Our focus now is on using community choirs."

Rhydian's uncle Nigel Roberts told The People: "It is astonishing. We feel the WRU has messed up."

Andrew Lloyd Webber recently denied claims that Rhydian had been approached to star in the Phantom Of The Opera sequel.

Today,13th Feb,there was a discussion about this on B.B.C.Radio Wales phone-in programme and the W.R.U. bloke that deals with all the pre-match events programme was on.He was asked WHY they have chosen NOT to have Katherine Jenkins (she has been leading the singing and been a sort of mascot for the Welsh team for a couple of seasons now)or someone like Rhydian Roberts to lead theanthem etc. and instead have chosen a choir.

Well,he tried to explain that NO snub to anyone has been intended or meant.It's just that they want to try and get "back to basics" and get the supporters to really sing their hearts out and join in with the choir.Instead of just listening to the singing. Which I suppose is fair enough because it is a long standing tradition. Wink

HOWEVER...I think that many people have been contacting the W.R.U. and asking about Rhyds singing sometime SO he said who knows in the future as nothing is set in stone. (Obviously, no-one gets paid for this as it is an honour to be invited....and they get to watch the game Razz

)

A lot of people phoned in with their opinions some for individual singers some for choirs. I think a few emails to the W.R.U. suggesting Rhydian for the future are in order....like a bombardment if possible lol Laughing
